Pitch and Putt: Pauline Lucey Wins Memorial Trophy
The Annual Memorial Trophy was held recently in honour of deceased pitch and putt members. We remember Nicky Kennedy and Betty Bermingham who passed away in the past year. We had a great turnout on the day and the trophy was hotly contested with some super low scores. In the overall combined, Pauline Lucey emerged victorious by the slimmest of margins from Kyle Kennedy. In the Ladies section Veronica Anglim claimed the Nett Runner Up spot with Kathleen Shanley winning the gross prize. The second and third Nett prizes went to Nora Whelan and Bridget Walsh respectively. The overall gents gross went to Noel Joyce with 19 under. Great to see Noel back shooting serious scores again. Gross runner up was James Cleary. Senior Nett was won by John Fitzgerald, Inter Nett winner Davy Hallinan and Junior Nett went to Brendan Cronin.Presentation Memorial Trophy, Front, L to R, Adrian Anglim, Noel Byrne, Hillview President, Pauline Lucey, Winner, James Cleary, Nora Whelan, Veronica Anglim. Thanks to all who supported the competition and congratulations to all the winners. Our Senior team travelled to Royal Meath on Sunday to play in the Inter Club finals. They were drawn to meet Fermoy in the semi-final. After the first round of scotch foursomes Fermoy had a 2.5 to 0.5 lead. With 4 wins required out of the 6 singles matches to even force a playoff, Hillview faced a huge challenge, but for a while it looked like it was going to happen. Unfortunately they just fell short, claiming 3 wins in the singles to leave the final score 5.5 to 3.5 in favour of Fermoy. Fermoy went on to defeat Lakeside in the final and claim their third Senior Inter Club title in a row. It is great to have such a great team representing the club, who put in such a great effort, players were Michael Kennedy, Stephan O'Reilly, Paul Sweeney, David White, John Fitzgerald, James Cleary,One of our most popular winter competitions, in honour of one of Hillview's greats the late Paddy Power scramble will take place next Sunday 4th November.Tennis
