Pitch and Putt Scratch Cup Results

Hillview hosted our annual Scratch Cup. It was held on a beautiful sunny today and no doubt that helped with the large turnout of 111 players with 22 different clubs represented. The Senior Scratch Cup sponsored by O‘Sullivan Insurances, Clonmel was won by Eddie Hennessy, Tramore from Michael Fennell, Lakeside.  Eddie previously won the trophy in 2013. The Intermediate Scratch Cup sponsored by Dermot Phelan Groundswork Contractor, Clonmel was won by Michael Kirby from Larkspur Park, Cashel. There was success for Hillview in the Junior Scratch Cup with Sean Cronin winning the Final 18 prize and Tom Morris coming out the eventual winner. Well done Tom!  The ladies winners were Eleanor Walsh, Fermoy and Catherine Dunne, Riverdale, Nenagh. Many thanks to our sponsors and all who helped prepare the course, serve food and drinks, take entries and check score cards. Many hands make light work!.

Our Tuesday night scrambles continue with the Net winners of Paul Sweeney and Nora Whelan and Gross winners of John Fitzgerald and Veronica Anglim.

On Saturday the club was proud host of the Munster Mixed Foursomes finals. The scoring was low as players faced tough conditions with the course drying out. Some local success as the team of Anne Fitzgerald and Pat Morris won the second 18 prize. Pauline Lucey and Adrian Anglim finished runners up with the eventual winners being Elaine Quinn and Michael Fennell from Lakeside for the second time in three years. Looking forward to the Hillview Open from June 1st to 3rd for the Dom Kavanagh Memorial Trophy.

Tennis Munster Vets Interprovincials

The Clonmel area was very well represented on the Munster tennis team for the annual Veterans Interprovincial Championships which were held at Rushbrook tennis club in Cobh this year on 18th and 19th May. On the team were Rose Holohan from Ballypatrick, and William Guiry, Michael Murray and Michael Prendergast from Hillview. Martin Ormond was also selected but had to withdraw through injury. William Guiry and Michael Murray were each part of teams which were victorious in their respective age groups and in a nail-biting finish Munster were just pipped by the narrowest of margins for overall victory by a very strong Leinster team. Next major tennis competition is the Hillview Senior Open Week, running from June 9th to 16th.
