Pitch and Putt

Who says that Pitch & Putt is just a Summer game? Not the Hillview members, here we are in the middle of November still going strong and not finished by a long way.

Last Sunday the club hosted the Tipperary Nett Cup (a 3 ball scramble) sponsored by the Tipperary Pitch & Putt County Board. The Board had also let it be known that they wished all proceeds from the event be forwarded to the Evan Hickey Fund. This generous gesture was responded to by players not only from Tipperary but also from Cork and Limerick in numbers.

With such a great turnout we had to have a cracking competition and so it turned out. The top net prize went to the Hillview trio of Lorraine Creed, Adrian Anglim and John Fitzgerald with a stunning score of 60. Comfortable winners you would think, no way, they were chased all the way by a trio of young Larkspur Park players, Michael Kirby, John O' Dwyer and Christopher Hickey who finished just one shot behind. The Gross prize went to the powerful Fermoy team of John Cahill, Dave Sexton and Conor Clancy. For the presentation of prizes we were joined by Hillview President Seamus O'Doherty, Michael Brennan Chairman of the Tipperary P&P County Board and by Joe Hickey representing the Hickey Family. The presentations were brought to a close with the presentation of a cheque for 1,000 euros to Joe. In thanking all Joe advised that they are now waiting for a call from US Medical team who will carry out the procedure on Evan. With fingers crossed they are hoping that things will start to happen before Christmas!!  Good luck Evan from all in Pitch & Putt.

Tennis Winter League Finals

The semi-finals and finals of the Flamingo Winter League was played on Friday 17th November. It was a long time of tennis, before they retired for refreshments. In the Div. 1 semi-finals the Aidan Gaughran and Cora Morrissey teams got past the James Reilly and Deirdre Garrett teams. The winning team was Mark Cummins, Aidan Gaughran, Aine Lonergan and Evelyn Buckley; they beat Michael Murray, Richard Thompson, Cora Morrissey and Annmarie Quigley. In Div. 2, Fiona Bourke and the Maura Hennessy captioned teams won through against Margaret Quirke and the Eugene Cooney teams. The winning team was Richard Madden, Philip Buckley, Carmel Boyle and Maura Hennessy, who beat Mira Hinner, Niall Lynch, Fiona Burke and Alison O' Donavan. It was good to see some new faces in the winner's enclosure; the seeding committee will have to upgrade some rankings in the new year. Thanks to all who participated who made this a great competition over the past 4 weeks.
