David Hannon Wins Club Championship

Tennis - Club Championships: We had a great week to run the club championships, however, the weather turned nasty on Saturday evening for the finals, therefore apart from tennis skill, tenacity and resilience were the main qualities required to win. Congratulations to David Hannon who continued his great season by winning the Div. 1 singles beating surprise finalist Gerry Burke. Aidan Gaughran won the Div. 4 against Mark Cummins. In the Div. 1 doubles Martin Ormonde and Michael Murray were successful against Aidan Barry and Gerry Burke. In the mixed Div. 1 Eugene O'Mahoney and Nuala Smith prevailed against Michael Murray and Aine Lonergan.

In the men's Div. 4, the old partnership of Jonathon Cooney and Aidan Gaughran were too strong for Frank Darrer and Mark Cummins. In the ladies Div. 1 doubles Cora Morrissey and Mary Wall defeated the experienced Trish Keating and Nuala Smith. In the Div. 5 competitions, Alison Walsh and Evelyn Buckley had a good week, Alison won the ladies singles against Sandra Charles, and the doubles with Evelyn Buckley. Evelyn won the mixed with Richard Thompson; they defeated Eugene Cooney and Alison Walsh. It was very pleasing to see a wide variety of players featuring and thanks to all who participated. The competition was sponsored by Flamingo Bingo and very well run by Tournament Director Michael Murray.

Best of luck to our Vets who will be playing in the All Ireland Finals in St Anne's, Waterford next weekend. Juniors, please sign up for the new junior ladder, this will give you a variety of games and put that coaching from William and Julianne into practise.
