It was a glorious weekend in Hillview for the Finals of the National Men's Stroke Play Tournaments. The course, weather, players and crowds were magnificent and thanks to all our Hillview helpers, the whole event went very well. Hillview will have three players competing in the finals Paul Sweeney and Dave Cahill in Intermediate grade and James Cleary in the senior. However, luck was not with them, the odd bounce or putt costs dearly at this level.On Saturday we had the Junior and Intermediate Finals. In the Junior Event Keith Power from Fermoy just pipped former Hillview player Kyle Kennedy now with Tipp Hills by 1 shot. In the Intermediate Event, the winner was Conor Irwin from Douglas who pipped Jimmy Quinn from Fermoy.On Sunday the big guns arrived with 80 senior qualifiers, each played 2 rounds and the top 10 qualified for an extra round. Hillview's James Cleary qualified for the play offs. After a titanic match which was level with 2 holes to play Mark Miller, Drogheda won the 2017 Senior Championship as he shot eight under par in the last round to win the tournament with -29, one ahead of Stephen Shoer, Lakeside, Templemore in second on -28 with Deerpark's Damien Fleming third for the second year-in-a-row on -26. Lakeside's Paul O'Brien was fourth on countback with -23. After all the weekend excitement, its back to the Tuesday Night Scrambles continue and the recent winners were Bridget Walsh, Anne Delahunty and Adrian Anglim , with the gross prize going to the duo of Nora Whelan and Joe Hickey,
Evan Fitzgerald had 2 good victories in Greystones and reached his first premier final this year, but he was beaten by Michael Bikay, last year's under 16 national champion.Juniors, make progress by playing your ladder matches and see entry forms for Hillview Junior Open. For adults, fun tournaments continue every Wednesday, and planning to run Condon Cup team event on Friday 21st, this is a team event, suitable for all grades.
On Saturday 15th July the Hillview Lotto Jackpot was €1,700. The numbers drawn were 7, 13, 14, 24 and there were 5 match 3s. The Next Lotto Draw will take place on Saturday 22nd July at 9.30p.m. The Jackpot will now be worth €1,800. Tickets are €1 each and can be bought from ticket sellers, or at the Hillview Bingo every Monday & Friday Night or at the Club Bar every night. Buy-ins for 2017 are now due, they are available at €45.00 for 1 year. If you're not in you can't win.
