Local Players Jaco Oosthuysen, Grace and Laura Durkan dominate the Hillview Open Tennis.Tennis Open Week
The RyanMotorPower Senior Tennis Open Week, was a great success this year, we had a great entry of 200, spread over 28 competitions to suit all grades. Thanks to all the local clubs in particular, Larkspur, Castleview, Kilfeacle, New Inn, Ballypatrick; we also had good contingents from Kilkenny, St Anne's, Mitchelstown, Nenagh, Templemore and Causeway. The prizes were well spread over the various clubs, at the presentation; Tournament Director Declan Tarrant thanked all for participating and for the great Hillview support, in helping ensure the week was a success. It was also, a great performance by Hillview players in all grades.
Jaco Oosthuysen, retained his Div. 1 title beating the upcoming David Hannon in a hard hitting final. Jaco was also runner up in the mixed 1 final with Grace Durkan. David Hannon had a great tournament with his fine run in Div1 and was the winner in Div. 2. The Durkan sisters Grace and Laura combined to win the Div. 2 ladies, Grace also won the Div. 1 ladies with Elodie Ruelle from Mitchelstown. Laura won the ladies Div. 3 singles against Sheila Nolan from Kilkenny and was runner up in the doubles with Kilfeckle's Claire Dawson. Other good results for Hillview players were, Jonathan Cooney and Yvonne Carolan were winners in the mixed div 5, and David Johnson and Richard Thompson were runners up in men's 5 doubles. Sandra Charles won the grade 6 ladies singles and teamed up with Ger Gunne to win the ladies doubles. Mira Hinner was runner up in the 6 singles.Peter Baker from Castleview had a good week, he won the mixed 2 with Niamh Owens from Tramore and was runner up in the Div. 2 men's final. In the lower divisions, there were many popular victories from Larkspur, New Inn and Kilfeckle combinations.
Pitch and PuttPauline Lucey Wins Munster Title
Congratulations to Pauline Lucey on winning the Munster Ladies Intermediate Strokeplay title at a sun drenched ESB Cork course last Saturday. It was only on the 9th playoff hole that Pauline got the better of fellow county woman Frances Ryan from Lakeside to claim the title. Congratulations must also go to Stephen O'Reilly who made it into the playoffs for the Munster Gents Senior Strokeplay title also played in ESB on last Sunday. Congrats also to the other Hillview players who made it to the Munster Finals, in the ladies Breda Howell and Lorraine Creed, in the gents David White and John Fitzgerald. On the club front the above were played for last Sunday the ladies competition for the Crowley Cup was won by an in-form Pauline Lucey with the runners-up spot going to Bridget Walsh and the gross prize to Anne Fitzgerald.The gent's prize for the Magner Trophy went to Adrian Anglim, Stephen O' Reilly was the runner-up with the gross prize going to James Cleary.Tuesday Night Scramble
This event continues to be strongly supported. Last Tuesday event was won by the trio of Nora Whelan, Dave Forrest and Adrian Anglim. second place went to Breda Howell, John Cooney and Paul Sweeney. The gross winners were Anne Delahunty, Sil Murray and Joe HickeyLadies Night is on next Friday June 23. Entry fee 20 euro including wine, food etc.Club Lotto
On Saturday 17th June the Hillview Lotto Jackpot was €1,300. The numbers drawn were 8,16,17,22 and there were 5 match 3s. The Next Lotto Draw will take place on Saturday 24th June at 9.30p.m. The Jackpot will now be worth €1,400. Tickets are €1 each and can be bought from ticket sellers, or at the Hillview Bingo every Monday & Friday Night or at the Club Bar every night. Buy-ins for 2017 are now due, they are available at €45.00 for 1 year. If you're not in you can't win.
