Tennis

Martin Ormonde Double in Causeway

The Vets Tennis Circuit is back on again and Martin Ormonde made a great start by winning the over 45 singles and the over 55 doubles, Michael Murray also had a good trip to the seaside, he won the over 70 doubles. Next on the tournament circuit is the Tipperary Vets this weekend. The Larkspur Doubles were on last week and Hillview sent a good contingent over, despite a number of good performances, our only finalists were the improving Laura Durkan in Div 3 and Anne Durkan in Div 4. The next competition in Hillview is the historical Condon Cup mixed team competition, suitable for all grades, which is scheduled for Friday 2nd September, starting at 7 PM.

Pitch and Putt

This week's notes must start on a sad note to report the sudden death of Michael Gibbs brother of popular member Breda Howell. Our thoughts are with Breda and her family and friends at this difficult time. May he rest in peace.

Scrambles: With the evenings closing in this year's Tuesday Night scrambles are coming to an end. The results of recent Scrambles were as follows.

Aug 16 winners were Joan Donlon, Ann Wall and Michael Kennedy of the nett prize with the gross going to the quartet of Veronica Anglim, Evelyn Cahill, Nora Whelan and Adrian Anglim. On Aug 23 the nett winners were Kathleen Shanley, Seanie O'Connor and Paddy O'Hanrahan. The gross prize went to John Cawley, John Cooney and Michael Kennedy.

Dates for diary. The next club competition will go ahead on Sunday Sept. 11 for the McInerney and Millea Cups. Club Outing: This is scheduled for Sept 24 to Claycastle (Youghal)

Daire Lynch Rowing

Congratulations to junior, Daire Lynch, who was on the Irish team taking part in the World Rowing Championships which were held in Rotterdam last weekend. Daire was in the double sculls, the same event as the O'Donovan brothers. He was second in the B Final, giving them an overall seventh place in the world standings. Tennis loss is rowing's gain.
