Club Notes: 3rd July 2016

St Annes Open

A few of Hillview'stalwarts did well at St Anne's Open Week; Martin Ormonde won the Div 2 title and had a great run in the Div 1 competition, reaching the semi-finals. Belated congratulations to Martin for his great performance in the recent National Vets Tournament in Templeouge, Dublin, where he finished runner up in the over 50 category. Jaco Oosthuysen and Declan Tarrant, continued their recent good form, were beaten finalists in the Div 2 doubles

Evan Whitty Fitzgerald played in the prestige's Naas Junior Open and stepped up an age to under 18. After winning his first round match, he played Atobola Abasta, the Irish number one U.16 and beat him over three sets in a thriller. In the semi, Evan beat the number two seed in straight sets. The final saw him up against the number one seed and current No. 12 in Ireland under 18. After a tight match, Evan had to give way but not before a titanic struggle. We would like to send our congratulations and best wishes to Evan on these excellent results and wish him continued success in the competitions to come.
