Busy Social and Sporting Week in Hillview
We hosted 2 very successful social events last week. On Sunday George Hogg organised the Friends of Bridgewater House Disco with DJ Billy Bop and on Tuesday the Annual Garda Senior Citizen's Christmas Party was held. With the improvement in the weather we were also able to conclude the outstanding tennis competitions.
Finally we concluded a busy tennis year with the Finals of the Allen's Giftware Winter League. Considering the recent weather we got a great dry, temperate evening with no wind, a great evening to play the finals of the Winter League. Congratulations to Kathleen Deely who went home with the cup and her team, Vivie Levie, Michael Moroney and Gerry Cahill who deputised for flu victim Tony Kenny in the final. They won against Paul Foley, Aidan Gaughran, Ann Walsh and Alision Walsh. In Div 2, the Team of Paul Garrett, Garth O'Keeffe, Marcella Lanzinger and Sandra Charles who subbed for Barbara Russell just edged out on points, after a 2 all draw the Joanna Lynch's team, with Mark Cummins, Niall Lynch and Katie O' Callaghan. Overall a good competition with 54 participants, which included many new members. The annual Christmas Open American Tennis Party night was enjoyed by all who braved the elements. The weather was not conducive to festive wear but one or two Santa outfits and a number of Christmas jumpers did make it onto court. There was some great tennis played and the artisan handmade plum puddings went to Ann Marie Moroney, Emma Smith, Frank Darrer, Marcella Lanziger (Winners) and to Kathleen Deely, Ann Kenrick, Philip Buckley and Valerie Ryan (Runners-up). Short breaks between matches were necessary to partake of some very nice Christmas punch and after tennis everyone adjourned to the newly refurbished bar for party food and a Quiz with a twist in which Nuala Smith took the honours. Thanks to Eugene Cooney for organising and making this a fun event, also to Ella and Phil who ran the bar to make it a sociable night.
