Tennis - Hillview Vets in action in Dublin and Kilkenny
The National Vets Tennis was on in Mount Pleasant, Dublin last weekend with a number of Hillview participants, Michael Murray returned to his previous club to renew old ties. William Guiry had a good weekend, he teamed up with Joe Donavan, Cork to get to the final of the over 50s doubles, they were unlucky to lose in a final set tie break.Kilkenny Vets, this was the last tournament of the year and Hillview were well represented, while a number of players were successful in early rounds, it was the evergreen Martin Ormonde and Michael Prendergast who got to finals. Michael was again unlucky in both the mixed and gents over 55 doubles. Martin had a restricted season due to injury, but got to the finals of a competitive mixed event, in his first competition back. The Winter League will be running every Monday and Wednesday during November, with both divisions starting at 7:30 PM.
Pitch and Putt
Sunday Oct 25th saw competition for the McInerney (Gents) and Millea (Ladies) Cups. While the weather let us down for the first time this year it did not affect an excellent turnout for both competitions. Also the scoring was not adversely affected with a number of the gents in particular scorching around the course. The Millea Cup was won by Bridget Walsh by 2 shots from Anne Fitzgerald with the gross prize going to Pauline Lucey. The McInerney Cup was a much closer affair with victory going to Paul Sweeney by 1 shot after shooting a sizzling 79 nett. But that was only just enough to fight off a brave challenge from Derek McGee. The gross prize went to a surprised Paddy O'Hanrahan.Sunday Scramble:
On Sunday Nov 1 in unusually mild conditions we ran a 3 ball scramble with an I.00 pm start. Again we had a great entry for this favoured type of competition. The winning combo were the trio of Evelyn Cahill, Veronica Anglim and Stephen O'Reilly who returned a staggering 27 under par for the 36 holes, in second place were the trio of Kathleen Foran, Lorraine Creed and Paul Sweeney ( again) who shot 25 under, which on any other day would be a winning score. The gross prize went to the team of Mary Maloney, Pauline Lucey and Paddy O' Hanrahan.Paddy Power Shield:
This iconic competition in the 3 ball scramble format will be played for next Sunday, Nov.8. If you wish to play put your name on the entry sheet in the kiosk or give your name to the Committee. Teams will be posted up in the kiosk. Play to start 1.30 pm. Presentation of prizes for the Shield and the McInerney / Millea Cups will be made later that evening with a time to be firmed.
