Club Notes: 21st June 2015

Pitch and Putt

It was a busy week with a Club Scramble on Tuesday June 16, an Open Scramble on Thursday June 18 and the Magner & Crowley Cups on Sunday June 21. We also had players playing in the National Strokeplay qualifiers in Cashel. With regard to the latter event; congratulations to John Fitzgerald and Stephen O'Reilly who qualified in the senior gents category. Results were as follows:

Club Scramble : Played on a beautiful evening this drew a record entry, The winners were the team of Mary Crotty, John Cooney and Michael Kennnedy on a countback from the team of Lorraine Creed, Paul Sweeney and Paddy O' Hanrahan. The gross prize went to the team of Kathleen Foran, Paddy Buck and Mario Smith. Just 1/3rd of a shot separated the above teams.

Open Scramble: This event was also well supported and again the margins of victory were tiny, The winners by again 1/3rd of a shot were the team of Kathleen Foran, Ann Wall and Michael Kennedy from the quartet of Mary Crotty, Lorraine Creed, Jason O' Regan and Mario Smith. The gross prize went to the trio of Mark Guidery, Con Lucey and Paul Sweeney.

Magner & Crowley Cups: Again very well supported these net 36 hole stroke competitions were played on Sunday June 21. With the course playing very fast, good scoring was difficult which made the competition all the more intense. The ladies competition winner was Anne Wall by one stroke from her friend Nora Whelan. The gross prize went to Pauline Lucey. The gents winner was the rising star Paul Sweeney, who won by the comfortable margin of 3 shots, from his friendly enemy Mario Smith. The gross prize was won by Rory O' Hanrahan. The presentation of prizes for this event will be made shortly.

Munster Cups and South Tipperary Leagues

After the excitement of the RyanMotorPower Hillview Senior Open Week, last week was a time to recover. Next focus is inter club tennis, this year we have 4 teams entered in the Munster Cup competitions and 4 teams in the South Tipperary Leagues. We are pleased that we have teams entered in grades 5, 6 and ladies, the experience of going to other clubs to play competitive tennis should be a worthwhile experience. Also its great to go to Ballypatrick, where the catering is always 5 star quality. However, they were not so generous with the points, Michael Moroney and team lost 6 to 2. The Grade 2 team went to Aghada on Sunday, but after a series of tight matches, had to give best to the home team. The Grade 3 team are in action against Nenagh next Friday evening, come along and support.
