There was great Activity in Hillview this week, with the annual Inter Firms Tennis and the County Pitch and Putt Matchplay Competitions.
Pitch and Putt
Tipperary Matchplay Champion, Michael Kennedy
The finals of the Tipperary Matchplay event were played in sunny if cool conditions on Sunday April 19 at Hillview. As always when the sun shines Hillview was at its most beautiful if dangerous best. After a long days play with many matches going to the last hole and beyond, the following were the results.
Gents Senior Grade - winner Michael Kennedy on the 37th hole from Paul O'Brien Lakeside.
Gents Inter Grade - winner Johnny Martin Tipp Hills by 6&5 from Alan Maher Lakeside.
Gents Junior Grade - winner Paul Malone Tipp Hills on the 37th hole from Stephen Cavanagh Tipp Hills.
From a Hillview perspective the hero of the day has got to be Michael Kennedy who beat county player James Ryan from Tipp Hills in the semi-final despite being 5 down after the first 18, before going on to defeat the 8 time winner of the event the redoubtable Lakesider Paul O'Brien after a titanic struggle. Congrats to all the other Hillview players who made it to the finals, John Fitzgerald, Rory O'Hanrahan, Mario Smith and Adrian Anglim and better luck next time lads.
During the presentation County Board Representative John Fitzgerald thanked Hillview for hosting the event, with special thanks to Groundsman Ritchie Blanche for the excellent course. We look forward to seeing many of the players who gave us such enjoyment over the last couple of Sundays at the Paddy Power Memorial Scratch Cup to be held in Hillview on Sunday May 10
