Club Notes: 20th July 2014

Tennis

Rushbrooke
Declan Tarrant and Eugene O'Mahoney had a very busy week in Rushbrooke, which is one of the biggest open tournaments in the country. Declan and Eugene got to the final of the mixed doubles grade 2 and Declan teamed up with Marcella Kelly, Tipp County in the mixed doubles to reach the final, but ultimate success alluded them.. Eugene also got to the semifinal of the grade 2 singles.
 
Juniors
The next big competition is the Junior Open Week, which again this year is very kindly sponsored by Mr Frank Quirke, Barrister at Law, Fethard. Its starting on Saturday August 10th for under 10s and the rest of the week for under 12 to under 18s.
We are running junior competitions on Tuesday and Thursday mornings starting on July 8th from 10 to 1PM.
Evan Fitzgerald had a busy week in Galway, he made the semi finals in both the under 14 and 16 singles.
 
Junior Tennis Camp
Tony McCarthy and Grace Durkan are running a tennis camp starting on Tuesday August 5th, this is open to members and non members. Completed forms can be given to the summer supervisors.
 

Pitch & Putt

Our scrambles continue to be popular with all, attracting large numbers of players. in recent days we ran three scrambles the results of which were as follows. The scramble run on the 8th of July was won by the team of Joan Donlon, Matty Anglim and Danny Gibbons from the team of Nora Whelan,Frank Gubbins and Rory O' Hanrahan, with the team of Bridget Walsh, Seanie O' Connor  and Paddy O'Hanrahan just behind in third place. 
 
The next scramble was held on the 15th of July and was won by the team of Enda Phelan, Joan Donlon and Stephen O'Reilly who scorched to a five stroke victory from the team of Breda Howell, Lorraine Creed and Jimmy Fitzgerald, with the gross prize going to the duo of Ann Wall and Michael Kennedy.
An "open" scramble was held on the 17th of July and with the course playing a little easier we had some cracking scores with the winners being the team of Ann Wall, Frank Gubbins and John Fitzgerald by one third of a shot from the team of Nora Whelan, Mary Maloney and Michael Kennedy with the team of Breda Howell, Norman Rankin and Stephen O' Reilly a further shot back.
 
Scramble lovers please note the next one takes place on Tuesday the 22nd of July at 6.30 pm.
 
Ladies Night: We ran a hugely successful night for the ladies on Friday the 18th July with almost 70 taking part in a "fun " scramble followed by food and craic. A special thanks to all who helped make the night happen, especially our Lady Captain Mary Maloney and her team. A very special thanks to all the ladies who travelled distances  and we hope they enjoyed their time with  us. This event is run every year and is gaining in popularity. Well done Ladies.
