Senior Open Week Great Success
The Senior Open Week was a great success, with 24 competitions and 200 individual entries. We are thankful for the great support provided by the clubs in the area. The good weather, Ella's Shop and Frank's barbecue and the Bar volunteers added to the great atmosphere over the week. Eugene Cooney did a great job as Tournament Director. This year we were again sponsored by RyanMotorPower, main SKODA dealers, Racecourse Road, Clonmel and grateful to Ronan Power in helping with the prize presentations.
There was a great diversity of clubs on the winning rostrum. Congratulations to Brian Reidy, Kilkenny who won the premier singles against Aidan McNamara, Mitchelstown. Mitchelstown McNamara and Waldron were too strong for Declan Tarrant in the grade 1 doubles. Arthur Fitzell Larkspur had a double in grade 6. Emma Bowler, Emly had singles and doubles success in grade 5. Hillview winners were Paul Garrett and Philip Hennessey were runners up in G6 doubles, Sinead Healy was runner up in G6 singles. In grade 5 Jonathan Cooney was unlucky in 2 finals with Yvonne Carolan and Aidan Gaughran. Cora Morrissey and Siobhain Slater won the grade 5 doubles. Michael Murray had a good tournament, winning the grade 4 singles and parterning Paul Foley to win the doubles. In grade 3, Ann Walsh and Teresa Drohan and Michael Moroney, Dean O'Mahoney were runners up in their finals. The full results can be obtained at the Tennis Ireland Tournament Software website.
Pitch & Putt
Open Scramblers: our next open scramble takes place on Thursday June 19, if you think you know somebody who might be interested in playing in playing pitch and putt bring them along. Start time 6.30pm
Interclub Competition : our senior gents took on a star studded team from St Anne's only to come out on the wrong side of a 5-4 score line. The Hillview points were won by James Cleary, Noel Joyce, Michael Kennedy and John Fitzgerald.
Tipperary County Strokeplay: The Gents section of this event was played on Sunday June 15 on a sun drenched Hillview course which presented all its usual problems and few more because of the hot and sticky conditions. As it should be all categories were keenly contested and produced some spectacular play.
