This year the Gents’ defending Champions are Wexford. In 2012 they stopped Cork from making it 10 in a row. The hot favourites for 2013 will be Cork. The Host County will be Tipperary who has won the National Inter-County 4 times in the past (1966, 1981, 1993 & 1995). They will have the best chance of dethroning the current champions Wexford and Hot Favourites Cork. Cork cannot be discounted even with some of their top player missing. They can put 3 teams together and all would have a chance of winning. However there is a new format to the Inter-Counties this year and it is my humble opinion that the result will be as follows: 1st Tipperary, 2nd Cork & 3rd Wexford.
The Gent’s Tipperary team is as follows: Sean Minogue (Riverdale), Noel Joyce (Hillview), Anthony Culhane (Tipp-Hills), James Cleary (Hillview), Stephen Shoer (Riverdale) & James Ryan (Tipp-Hills). The Sub will be Stephen O’Reilly (Hillview).
In the Ladies Inter-Counties the defending Champions are Cork. Tipperary has won this only once in 1990. There are 3 Counties who have dominated the ladies and they are Kildare, Cork & Dublin. It is hard to see any change but I would hope that Tipperary would put up a good performance and finish in the top 3 or 4. In my opinion the result will be as follows: 1st Kildare, 2nd Dublin, 3rd Cork & 4th Tipperary. I hope I am wrong and the Tipperary ladies surprise me. There will be many other people out there who will have their own opinions and many of them will say that I am wrong but we will see what happens on the weekending 7th & 8th September.
The Ladies Tipperary Team is as follows: Breda Lonergan (Tipp-Hills), Shula McCarthy (Hillview). Martha O’Brien (Lakeside), Mary Quinn (Lakeside), Bridget Shelly (Lakeside) & Margaret Courtney (Riverdale). The Sub will be Megan Courtney (Riverdale).
The very best of luck to both the Ladies and Gent’s Tipperary Teams.
There will be a table quiz for the Inter-Counties on Friday 6th September starting at 8.15pm. The entry fee will be €20.00 per-table of 4 persons. The venue will be Hillview Sports Club. All are welcome. Come along and support.
There is a raffle also to raise funds to help with the cost of the Inter-Counties. Tickets are €2 a strip or 3 strips for €5.00. Tickets on sale in the bar or from club members. 1st Prize is a drinks hamper worth €150.00. 2nd Prize is a Dunne’s shopping Voucher worth €50.00 and 3rd Prize is also a Dunne’s shopping Voucher worth €50.00.
